Cowdogs
Health Program
One of the best things that you can give your Hangin’ Tree Cowdog is a good health program.
Each month, the dogs are given a deworming product and a product for heartworm prevention. For heartworm prevention I use a product called Interceptor. For general deworming, I will rotate between a pyrantel pamoate product or a fenbendazole product. If you take time to regularly control or prevent internal parasites, you will generally see dogs with more energy, they eat less and in the long run they can have a longer life expectancy.
I also do a regular monthly flea and tick prevention by using Frontline Plus. Check with your veterinarian about using Interceptor and Frontline Plus. All adult dogs receive an annual booster vaccination for the prevention of canine distemper virus, canine infectious hepatitis, canine respiratory infection, canine parainfluenza virus, canine parvovirus, leptospirosis and corona virus. I am currently using products from Schering-Plough. The adult dogs also receive rabies booster vaccinations.
The puppies are started on a series of vaccinations for canine distemper virus, canine infectious hepatitis, canine respiratory infection, canine parainfluenza virus, canine parvovirus, leptospirosis and kennel cough. Tammy's Hangin' Tree Cowdog pups deserve the best in life and it all starts when they are little pups. Each puppy is dewormed early in life and dewormed frequently in order to try to keep them free of internal parasites. And, the puppies' mothers are kept on a regular deworming schedule. A healthy mother has a better chance of producing higher quality milk for her puppies. The guarantee starts early for my puppies and each puppy deserves to be healthy and happy when it leaves for its new home. Puppies do not leave Tammy's Cowdogs until they are around 10 weeks old. They need to be totally independent and in good shape when they make their move to their new owner.
When a puppy leaves Tammy's Cowdogs, the buyer receives a Bill of Sale Invoice. The health history of each puppy and its mother is listed on the invoice. As the new owner you will have the dates of vaccinations, dewormings, and products used so that you can take the information to your veterinarian when you continue the dog's health management.
